The crow is a symbol of transformation. This canvas has gone through its own transformation. This canvas started as a therapy piece at a time in my life when I was feeling overwhelmed with emotions that I didn’t understand. Painting helps me move through emotions and helps me to see things clearer. After some time I had moved through the emotions and didn’t fell the need to finish the piece in any capacity. So I spray painted over it first with black, It happened to be valentines day when I decided to studied roses for a tattoo I wanted to do on myself. by the end of the day I couldn’t stop seeing roses. So I spray painted a rose on the canvas. This happened the first week I got alone after being in a group for a few months. when at my campsite I started seeing crows. I didn’t realize they were crows, back home crows are way smaller but in the desert these birds looked like stealth bombers doing precise tactical maneuvers in the air. After leaving that spot in quartzite I rejoined some friends in Sedona. Once again I saw two crows gilding through the air. on 2/2/2022 I pulled 2 taro cards asking to make clear the dichotomy within myself. one of the cards happened to be the transformation card. I pulled a card from another deck and it had a black bird on it. It all just felt like coincidence until my friend left a bottle of wine in my bus, I was getting dressed the next morning when I noticed a crow with a crown on the label. Now it was in my house I couldn’t ignore it. I shared this with my friend and she shared with me some pages from an animal medicine book about the meaning of the crow. “The crow is the keeper of sacred law” “The crow sees simultaneously the three fates past present and future” “Crow is an omen of change” “Crow medicine signifies a firsthand knowledge of higher order of right and wrong than that indicated by laws created by human culture” I wanted to honor the message of the crow with this piece. The crows ability to hold balance of all realms.
